Code 4 Your Life

Into:

Well, this is my first blog, ever.  The point here is to document my escape from poverty, and danger. I also hope to inspire people who have the aptitude for programming to use it to escape their unique situations where maybe they feel trapped in a life they do not or can not enjoy.

Backstory:

I was born in Florida and grew up in the hood. In a place where jumping behind cars, and laying flat on your belly to avoid getting shot was second nature. It was like a game as a five year old I had no real understanding of death. I was food insecure and my toys mostly came from Toys for Tots or similar programs once a year for Christmas. The education system in place was horrible a 2 out of 10 for the Great Schools website. I’ve been pretty much self taught all my life.

Coding for my life:

My parents decided to move us into a small town in Oklahoma. There is no real serious crime that I usually had to witness on a daily bases. But there is one huge problem, tornadoes. We almost got directly hit with one about three months ago. Since we have lived here tornadoes are very common even outside of tornado season. So far there have been four within the five months I’ve been here.

There is no where to go. It is surprisingly common for small Okie towns to not have public tornado shelters. Which happens to be the case where I live. To make things worse our apartment is so terribly built that if we did get hit we would not survive.

I plan to learn to program and specialize in software development or web development. To escape my dangerous situation and elevate my life to where I feel it should be.

Self Taught:

I’m using free online resources to learn outside of traditional schooling.

Experience:

Once I am ready I will take part in projects and volunteer my skills for non profits to gain experience/ document my abilities for employment.
